Workshop – A Gourmet Workshop, Roman-style

A walk to discover Aventicum’s vestiges, followed by a tasting or a workshop to learn about the secrets of Roman cuisine.
The Aventicum à la carte tour, accompanied by Apicius the Gourmet, offers you a choice of three themed tours to discover the ancient capital of Roman Helvetia and for journeys to the world of ancient flavours. Combine these modules according to your own taste!

1. The History of Whetting One’s Appetite...

For a group; up to 25 people and depending on the chosen workshop
This visit exists only in French

A. Bois de Châtel
Number of participants based on the selected workshop; maximum 25
Language: French
Tour Length: approximately 2 to 3 hours
Price: CHF 200. – per group (payment onsite)
Meeting Point: Roman Museum, or another arranged location
Following a bus ride to the village of Oleyres, cross the “Bois de Châtel” woods in the footsteps of Helvetians while discovering the surrounding landscape. At the end of the tour, visit the most important Aventicum monuments.

B. Porte de l’Est
Number of participants based on the selected workshop; maximum 25
Language: French
Tour Length: 1 ½ hours (90 minutes)
Price: CHF 90. – per group (payment onsite)
Meeting Point: Roman Museum, or another arranged location
Visit Aventicum’s most important monuments, up to the “Porte de l’Est”; the most well preserved part of the Roman wall.

C. The Roman Site of Avenches
Number of participants based on the selected workshop; maximum 25
Language: French
Tour Length: 1 hour
Price: CHF 60. – per group (payment onsite)
Meeting Point: Roman Museum, or another arranged location
Visit Aventicum’s most important monuments.

Tasting: You are the guests!

A. Gustatio I
Cum grano salis… (With a grain of salt…)
A Roman aperitif is served with appealing simplicity, including lots of freshness and spicy varieties. Food tasting that is full of surprises!

B. Gustatio II
Ab ovo usque ad mala… (From eggs to apples…)
A rich Roman aperitif is served, with a stimulating overview of cuisine from the Roman era, while respecting the kitchen rule of the ancients: ab ovo usque ad mala - from eggs to apples. The table that tells its very own stories…

Per each group, a minimum of 8 people, up to 25 people
Language: French
Workshop Length: approximately 1 hour
Price: CHF 30. – per person; drinks and wine included (payment onsite)
Meeting Point: to be arranged with your guide

Preparation: Get your aprons on!

C. Culina I
A journey into the universe of Roman cuisine’s tastes and aromas. Preparation of different specialities, according to the recipes of Apicius.

Per each group, a minimum of 8 people, up to 15 people.

Workshop Length: 1 hour and 30 minutes, food tasting in addition
Price: CHF 35. – per person (payment onsite)

D. Culina II
A journey into the universe of Roman cuisine’s tastes and aromas. Preparation of different specialities resulting in a complete menu; according to the recipes of Apicius, while respecting the kitchen rule of the ancients: ab ovo usque ad mala - from eggs to apples.

Per each group, a minimum of 8 people, up to 12 people.

E. Culina III (special for schools)
Introduction to the Roman cuisine’s tastes and aromas; a history of food used and table traditions in Roman times. Preparation of a small “Roman snack.”

For classes, starting at 7H; for up to 25 children and accompanying person(s).
