In the heart of Avenches, a new public space is now open to the public: the memorial park dedicated to General Henri Guisan, a national historical figure and a native of the town
Spanning approximately 2,600 m², this brand-new space for socialising and relaxation showcases the bust of General Guisan whilst offering the public a green setting that is accessible to all.
Footpaths, planted areas, benches and street furniture make up this new setting. Plaques recounting the key stages of General Guisan’s life complete this peaceful, flower-filled space.
At the heart of the site, a paved square reminiscent of an arena features a fountain with five jets and misters, providing welcome moments of cool relief in summer. The water is collected and then reused to water the plants, as part of a sustainable resource management approach.
This project was developed by the local council with the support of the General Henri Guisan Foundation, the Avenches Citizens’ Shooting Society and Avenches Tourism,
